The Linking Project 2017-18

As part of our ongoing commitment to community cohesion through our PSHE and SMSC curriculum, the children of Class 3 are to participate in "The Linking Project". This highly successful initiative has developed over several years and, along with St Mary’s C.E. (A) Primary School, includes St Martin’s C of E Primary School, Fitton Hill and St Thomas C of E Primary School, Werneth.

This represents a valuable opportunity for the children of St Mary’s to socialise with and learn alongside children from the two other schools. During the events that form the framework of the project, our children will visit either St Martin’s or St Thomas - or stay in school and receive children from the other schools. This year’s chosen theme for the project is British Values and the children’s learning during the visits will be linked to this theme. Activities at St Mary’s will include a local walk to learn about the area and its history.

Linking Project - Wednesday 15th November 2017

Wednesday 15th November 2017 was the first full Activity Day of this year’s Linking Project.  Children from St Mary’s made the journey by coach to Martin’s C of E Primary School, Fitton Hill and to St Thomas C of E Primary School, Werneth.  Meanwhile, a group of ten excited children waited at school to welcome new friends from St Martin’s and St Thomas’.  It was an amazing day!  In Greenfield, we walked around the local area and pointed out sites of historical interest to our visitors.  We had lunch together and spent time in the playground with children from across school.  There were lots of “getting to know you” activities and we listened to a story about the importance of similarities and differences.  All of these experiences help us to understand the various elements of British Values and their significance for us all.  We are looking forward to meeting again on Wednesday 14th March 2018!

Linking Project - Tuesday 10th October 2017

On the afternoon of Tuesday 10th October 2017, the children of Class 3 travelled by coach to Hathershaw College for the first Linking Project Event of the academic year 2017-18.  Everyone was excited at the prospect of meeting new friends from Martin’s C of E Primary School, Fitton Hill and St Thomas C of E Primary School, Werneth.  This was a fantastic afternoon.  Children worked in groups of fifteen - five children from each of the three schools.  Activities included football, benchball, the parachute, trampolining and an opportunity to visit the fitness suite.  What a fantastic afternoon!
