New Behaviour System 2017

As we start a new academic year, you will hear your children discussing our improved behaviour system. Children will continue to be rewarded for following the Golden Ways of St Mary’s however the sanctions system has been reformed.

The behaviour system each class follows is outlined below:

As part of our work on developing the children’s Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural understanding we have developed a new set of principles called St. Mary’s Scarf. This acronym represents the following:

S – Safe          C – Caring        A – Achieving       R – Respectful         F - Friendly

Each day the children will be encouraged to continue to follow St Mary’s Golden Ways and ‘wear their St Mary’s Scarf’ which incorporates these values in all that they do. At the end of the day one child will be chosen for the Daily Scarf Award. This award will be given to a child that is demonstrating behaviour in line with our SCARF principles. At the end of each half term there will be a special certificate awarded to children who have always followed the SCARF principles displaying outstanding behaviour and conduct throughout the term. Team points will also continue to be given out.

Each day the children will start afresh on St Mary’s SCARF. If misbehaviour does occur we will follow these procedures, each being recorded on the class behaviour chart.

Step 1 behaviours – shouting out, disruptive behaviour, distracting the learning of others, and not following instructions – verbal warning and record on class behaviour chart at Step 1.

Step 2 behaviours – continuing to display step 1 behaviours, not respecting the environment or equipment, not keeping themselves or others safe – verbal warning and record on class behaviour chart at Step 2.

Step 3 behaviours – swearing or use of unsavoury language, physical aggression towards others, repetition or no improvement of behaviour displayed in Step 1 and 2 – remove from situation or time out in another classroom to reflect on behaviour, reported to Key Stage Leader and 1 playtime missed.

Step 4 behaviours – repetition or no improvement of behaviour displayed in Steps 1 – 3 – remove from situation, time out in another classroom to reflect on behaviour, reported to Headteacher, parents contacted by Headteacher and 2 playtimes missed.

Step 5 behaviours – repetition or no improvement of behaviours displayed in Steps 1 – 4 – remove from situation, time out in another classroom to reflect on behaviour, reported to Head Teacher, parents contacted by Head Teacher, child put on report and behaviour contract drawn up and reviewed in 2 weeks.
