Netball Report April - May 2019

Netball match V Denshaw Tuesday 30th April

Well done to both St Mary's Netball teams who displayed a brilliant performance against Denshaw winning both matches 7-2 and 6-3. All pupils worked extremely hard and managed to produce a confident performance with some excellent episodes of play.

Netball match V Knowsley Wednesday 1st May

All pupils who played in these matches should be so proud of their performance and sportsmanship.  Both teams came up against two very strong and experienced teams who firstly were two years older than some of our team and secondly they play for Oldham Netball Club. Both teams lost unfortunately, however they did manage to score a number of times and put up a great fight. They were not phased or put off and carried on working hard in true St Mary's fashion. These games were great experience for the pupils and will stand them in good stead for future matches and years!

Next match Wednesday 15th May V Delph @ home.

Many thanks to all parents who helped transport the children - it is very much appreciated and without this we would not be able to facilitate these matches.

On Tuesday 13th November the year 5/6 football team played a friendly match against St Thomas' leesfield.

The boys played their hearts out and dominated the majority of the match. As time went on they displayed some excellent episodes of play and had some great shots and attempts, but just not quite on target.  Unfortunately St Thomas' scored in the latter part of the game and the final score was 1-0 to them.  To say the boys had not played together before they played amazingly! Well done lads.

St Mary's Netball Champions - May 2018

On Tuesday 1st May the St Mary's netball team attended the Dovestones Partnership Netball Rally, held at Saddleworth School. There were eight schools that attended. In the group stages we beat Diggle and St Agnes. We lost to Delph in a very close game indeed. We finished second in our group to go through to play Friezland in the semi final. Friezland put up a good fight but in the end we dominated the second half and won!

In the final we played Delph (who we had lost too in the group stage).  The score was 2-1 at half time to us.  It was nail biting stuff!  With two minutes to go we scored again to make it 3-1 however, we lost possession and Delph managed to score again to make it 3-2.   We managed to keep possession up until the final whistle. The girls fought so hard in this final and deserved the win.

Such a nice way to end their netball life at St Mary's. They have grown from strength to strength over the last two years. It's been a pleasure to watch. I will miss each and everyone of them when they leave. Very proud.

So ....... CONGRATULATIONS St Mary's champions!!  You leave on top!!

Lucy, Amy, Eva, Erin, Kelsie, Holly, Willow, Isabelle and Kate.

Best wishes, Mrs Kipling

Well done to the St Mary's Lacrosse Team who attended a prestigious tournament after qualifying in the Oldham round. They were one of 17 schools who competed at the Armitage Centre in Manchester. The competition was tough - all teams played to a very high standard.  In the group stage they beat Bridgewater 5-1 and St Catherine's 3-2, they lost to Hale Prep 5-3.  We came second in our group to qualify for the quarter finals!  They played St James in an exciting and physical match. St Mary's fought to the final whistle but unfortunately they were outplayed.  All the team did extremely well and had a great day! Well done team St Mary's everyone is so proud of you all.

Netball - March 2018

Well done to St Mary's who beat Diggle School 18-1 on Tuesday 13th March. They displayed excellent skills and out played Diggle from start to finish. It has to be said though that Diggle were very gracious in their defeat and did not give up throughout the whole match. Well done St Mary's!  Player of the match was Holly Haynes.

St Mary's Netball Champions - July 2018

St Mary's dance group crowned champions of Oldham, AGAIN!

Massive congratulations to the St Mary's dance group who came 1st in the Oldham Schools 'Gotta dance' competition held at Oldham Academy North on Wednesday 7th March.  The team pulled off an amazing performance with every single member giving it their all.  They looked the part in amazing costumes and performed a spectacular routine. The children had been working hard for weeks practicing and to come 1st out of 16 schools is such an achievement which we are all very proud of.  They scored 84 points to be crowned champions, 2nd place scored 81 and 3rd place 79 points.

Sporting Achievement for Conner Grafton - February 2018

Congratulations to Conner who has managed to secure himself a place on the Greater Manchester Cricket team. He had to go through trials against lots of other high level cricketers.  However, he proved himself, his ability shone through and he got picked to represent the team. Conner also represents Oldham and Friamere at cricket. Well done Conner and good luck.

Cross Country Training - Saturday 24th February 2018

Well done to all the children who worked so hard at training.  It was bitterly cold and very muddy. Great effort by all!   Thank you to all parents for bringing the children.

The St Mary's Lacrosse team have made it through to the Greater Manchester school games finals!  They will represent Oldham to compete for the main trophy.  Huge congratulations to the team who took the Oldham qualifier to another level.  It was held at Bluecoat School. We won all of our group matches and the semi final!  It was a very close and controversial final. We lost by one goal! However we still managed to qualify and we were certainly the best team there.  Bring on the final.  We are very proud of you all!

Sports Leaders - January 2018

A select few of year 5 and 6 pupils have been become sports leaders! They participated in half a term of sports leadership lessons in PE and then had to apply to become an official sports leader.  The applications were very impressive with a lot of thought going into them. The children have taken to their new role like ducks to water. They are confident, enthusiastic and the younger children love them.  They are working in small groups doing one lunch time a week.  The current Year 4s will gain the opportunity to train in Year 5.  Well done sports leaders - you have amazed me with your ability, dedication and enthusiasm.  Keep up the great work!

Netball - Double Win for St Mary's - 6th December 2017

Super proud of the netball team! They beat Hulme 17-9 and South Failsworth 7-3.

The girls played exceptionally well - the best they have ever played ! They were confident, made little mistakes, listened to instructions, fought for every ball and worked brilliantly as a team. It was like watching a different team!  Well done girls! Let's maintain this high level of effort and I'm sure we will have some more wins in the new year!

Girl's Football League Games - 5th December 2017

Well done to the girl's football team! They had two tough games as part of the Oldham Schools League and lost 2-0 to Diggle. Unfortunately it took us this game to get into the play. Even though they lost they put in some great runs and tackles. They beat Knowsley 1-0 with a much stronger performance than in the first game. Hopefully after Christmas we will have some more practices and secure some more wins. Well done girls !
